Benchmark Experiments

The benchmark experiments come under the ITER-EFDA programme.
They are performed by building structures that simulate the shield and/or blanket of a fusion reactor (mockup) and then measuring the neutron radiation or the effect of the radiation inside the shield/blanket structure. The mockups are fabricated in fusion-relevant materials. The measurements are then compared with the same quantities calculated by codes and with the use of nuclear-data libraries. Analyses of the comparisons are used to improve nuclear data and to validate the calculation codes.
