Functionally graded ceramic materials

The functionally graded materials developed consist of multilayer silicon carbide and ceramic composite made of a silicon carbide matrix and carbon or silicon carbide continuous fibres. The material is assembled in different phases, starting from the multi-layer SiC on which the ceramic composite is then manufactured. The technique employed is suitable for fabricating components with flat, curved or tubular geometry etc.
The main characteristics of this functionally graded material are its reduced permeability to gases and its high fracture toughness.
