A vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) is used for measuring the magnetization of the superconducting samples depending on the temperature and on the applied magnetic field.
The cryostat is equipped with a Nb3Sn/NbTi superconducting magnet allowing magnetic field loops up to ±12T, in a temperature range from 4.2K to room temperature.
The system allows to characterize samples of small dimensions (<10g, with volumes of some mm3) of low Tc superconductor strands, or HTS materials, either bulk or film, with a sensibility of about 10-6 emu. The same system can be used to measure the magnetic susceptibility of the superconducting samples on varying the temperature and the applied magnetic field.
