Function, Scope of Supply:

Main functions of the ITER Tritium Plant are:
- to prepare the gas mixtures required for fuelling the ITER machine and to deliver these gases at specified compositions and flow rates
- to process the gases returned from the machine in order to separate impurities and detritiate them prior to controlled release to the environment
- to receive gases from other sources within ITER (e. g. Test Breeder Blanket Modules, Hot Cell) and introduce them into the main fuel loop
- to receive and assay tritium imported from off-site

This procurement package is related to the Water Detritiation System (WDS) which has the function to recover tritium from the various tritiated water sources in ITER and to detritiate protium from ISS (Isotope Separation System) before release to environment.

Description, Technologies :

A number potential sources of tritiated water exist in ITER. The largest routine contributors to the WDS feed stream are the Atmosphere and Vent Detritiation Systems.
The WDS uses the CECE (Combined Electrolysis Catalytic Exchange) process to strip residual tritium from protium to be released and returns the tritium to the inner loop of the Fuel Cycle via the ISS (Isotope Separation System).
Electrolysis cell dissociates enriched tritiated water HTO (liquid) into HT (gas) and O2 (ggas).
Key components and subsystems are: electrolyser, LPCE column and water purification modules.
