Function, Scope of Supply:

The main function of the divertor is the removal of a part of the plasma thermal power, the collection of the impurities produced by the fusion reactions (helium ‘ashes’).

The divertor is formed by 54 elements structurally identical called ‘cassettes’ which form an axysimmetric semi-annular channel. The divertor is located in the lower part of the vacuum vessel.

The ‘cassettes’ are replaceable by remote-handling through the vacuum vessel ports in the lower part of the vacuum vessel.

The divertor design has to guarantee the thermal protection for heat fluxes that can reach 20 MW/m2

The divertor ‘cassettes’ assure the mechanical support of the components devoted to remote the heat flux and the distribution of coolant.

Description, Technologies :

Omega-shaped Mono-block structure produced from welding of forged pieces and plates or obtained by hot isostatic compression at high temperature (HIP).The fabrication has to insure high mechanical precision to obtain the perfect alignment of the 54 cassettes in the vessel. The construction produces inside the cassette the distribution system for the pressurised water cooling to the high heat flux components installed on the cassette.

The 54 cassettes are identical in shape and general structure with a weight of about 12 tons per cassette and envelope dimensions L=2m, l=0.5m, h=1m.
